The Passover Lamb

Written by mitziyonng

“Purge out therefore the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For even Messiah our Passover (Lamb) is sacrificed for us.” (1 Corinthians 5:7).

The Scripture cited above tells us that Yahshua the Messiah, is our Passover Lamb. The Hebrew word for Passover is “Pesach” The word means to spare, skip, exempt or “Pass over”. That simply means that the Messiah is our “Pesach Lamb” or Passover Lamb. Also, in first Peter Chapter one. We were informed that the Messiah was a Lamb without blemish and without spot.
“For as much as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers:But with the precious blood of the Messiah, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot. Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you” (1 Peter 1:18-20).

The plan of salvation was complete and already perfected in the mind of the Eternal Father before He made the world.

The Old Testament contains many types and shadows of the plan of salvation. To understand what Apostle Paul meant about the Messiah being our Passover, we must go back to the time when the children of Israel were in Egyptian bondage.

King Pharaoh held the Israelites in bondage, and was oppressing them in many ways. He made it hard on them until they began to cry unto the Almighty Yahweh for deliverance. Yahweh then called Moses and sent him back into Egypt to deliver them. Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and asked him to let them go. But Pharaoh refused to let them go.

So, the Almighty Yahweh used Moses to perform a number of spectacular miracles and wonders in Egypt: yet Pharaoh would not let Israel go. Finally, Yahweh told Moses what to do. He told Moses to instruct all the tribes of Israel to slay the lamb (a year old Lamb) without spot or any blemish. Every family should kill the lamb and sprinkle the blood on the post of their doors. Moreover, Yahweh said to Moses “For I will send an Angel over the land of Egypt which will slay the first born in every home of the Egyptians, but when I see the blood, I will pass over you” Exodus12:12-13.

This is why the lamb is called the Passover Lamb, and this is why Paul said the Messiah is our Passover Lamb. This is why the Son of Yahweh – Yahshua the Messiah, when He came to this world, John the Baptist saw Him and said,….”Behold the Lamb of Yahweh, which taketh away the sins of the world” (John 1:29).
This, also was the reason why Apostle Peter informed us that the Messiah was that Lamb of Yahweh without spot or blemish (1 Pet. 1:19).
I wish you a happy celebration of this year’s Passover/Unleavened Bread and a prosperous New Year. Shalom!
