Let me at this juncture advice you to get educated. If you are not informed, you will be deformed. One is said to be lucky when preparation meets opportunity. Be prepared, be trained, be informed, get the knowledge, and get ready to work. The work will come. We keep friends for friendship, but work with the skilled and the competent. The roots of education may be bitter, but the fruits are sweet. It is easy to see shore from shore, but to cross the river is not easy. Building a bridge across the river will cost time and money; Build a strong one.
Education is imperative because there is priceless wisdom to be found in books. All that mankind has done, thought, gained or been is lying in matchless preservation in the pages of books. There is no surer way along the road to success than to follow in the footsteps of those who had successfully journeyed before us. One man’s experience maybe of utmost use to another if the later avails himself of the lessons of the former’s encounter. Life progresses to the better as long as those following will have the power to advance to higher heights by gaining greater light.
But be sure that education is good and must be pursued but not at the expense of your soul. Let nothing come between you and your Maker. Neither let work choke worship nor worship choke career. Do not so contemplate eternity that you lose your today. Or be busy here and there and lose your soul. Let balance replace extremes. A bird has two wings. If one of them is clipped, it cannot fly. Don’t be a slave to your work or dream. Enjoy your freedom. Own the dream, don’t let it own you. You can leave without it, can’t you? Work is a result of life, not the purpose and meaning of life. In truth, life’s purpose is communion with the Creator. Meaningful and authentic living is only when a man begins to fear his Creator; otherwise life becomes an endless search for meaning and reality, a grope in darkness. Nothing but the BREAD OF LIFE can satisfy man’s hunger. But do not be so heavenly conscious that you become earthly useless. This world may not be our home, but it is our residence. Our citizenship is in heaven, but let us never forget that our involvements are on earth.
As much as it is possible, avoid fraud in all its ramifications; it is better to loose honourably than to succeed with dishonesty. More important than winning a trophy is being a good human being. There are two things to aim at in life: to get the thing you want and after that, to enjoy it.
In all our business transactions, we should put ourselves in the place of those with whom we are dealing. We should be careful to look not only for our own good, but also for the good of others. He who takes advantage of another’s misfortune in order to benefit himself, or who seeks to profit himself through another’s weakness is a transgressor. It is written: “if you sell anything to your neighbor, or buy anything from his hand, you shall not oppress one another”. How can we expect our Master to bless us in our business if we oppress those who serve or patronize us.
Education is a process of obtaining knowledge not certificate, so let the big certificate you will obtain therefore mean better performance through increased knowledge. Let no man think that he has learned enough. Your education should continue during your lifetime; everyday you should be learning and putting to practical use the knowledge gained. Aim at getting truly educated while you have the opportunity. Education that does not train the heart is dangerous. Intellectual education influences only the head. True education does not only teach us how to make a living but also how to live. Do not sacrifice quality at the altar of quantity. Education is not complete unless the body, the mind and the heart are equally educated. Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make a man a more clever devil. The character must receive proper discipline for its fullest development. Many children who attend different centres of education do receive prevailing influences which misshape their character, divert the minds from life’s aim and debase the morals. In pursuing relevance in the world, often habits are formed that ruin life both for this world and the world to come. The easiest and only way salt looses its value or taste is by mixing up. In process of pursuing to be what you want to be in life, beware of excessive mix up. Watch your association. Be salt, not insult
Always remember that no learning has taken place until performance improves. Let your performance make your credentials to be authentic, avoid meretriciousness. The greatest purpose of education is not merely to communicate knowledge, but to impart vitalizing energy from mind to mind. Get the knowledge; apply the knowledge; unconverted knowledge is a waste and a heavy burden. Knowledge is not power until it is applied. It is not knowing what to do, it is doing what you know that brings result. We can figure out the mechanics, but it takes the dynamics to make it work. It is the use you make of your knowledge that determines the value of your education.
But do always remember that all mechanics and dynamics without divinity is vain. Whenever man accomplishes anything in spiritual or temporal spheres, he should bear in mind that he does it through cooperation with his Maker. There can be no reaping unless the human hand acts its own part in sowing the seeds; But without divine agencies which supplies sunshine and rain, dew and clouds there would be no increase. So it is in every business or career pursuit. We have a part to play, but we must have power of divinity to unite with us or our efforts will be in vain.
